Time Traveler's Notebook

Join author Craig Childs for a four-night field experience at Mesa Verde as our first offering for the Time Traveler's Notebook. We will explore the height of the cliff dwelling period at its epicenter.

Oct 4-8, 2026

Through storytelling, observation, and science, we will take an up-close look at an era of architectural glory and social, cultural, and environmental upheaval in the ancient world. We'll spend three days in Mesa Verde National Park with the cliff dwellings and other sites of Puebloan ancestry. Stopping to talk as we hike, Childs will present overviews of what was happening across the Southwest at the time, where these dwellings came from and where they lead to.

Walking will be moderate, at least 4 miles a day, all on trails, some steep, but no scrambling hand over hand.

Lodging at the foot of Mesa Verde will be rustic, either camping or in bunk cabins, with evening talks around a campfire. The food will be natural, wholesome, and awesome, provided by a field chef coming up from New Mexico. Be ready to hike, stop for lectures, and fill your senses with a time and place long gone but still very much here.

We will meet Sunday at 4pm and the program will go through Thursday morning the 8th. Each morning on our field days we will carpool to the Park entrance and load into a van for the day, transported to trailheads and sites atop the mesa.

This program is limited to 15 participants, first come first serve for those who sign up.

Small Groups, Great Experiences

We keep our approach personal because it matters. A smaller scale allows for better connection, smoother experiences, and stronger group energy.

Authentic, Not Over-Polished

We keep things real. Our style is grounded, approachable, and focused on meaningful experiences rather than flashy promises or empty marketing hype and gimmicks.

Built Around Shared Connection

What makes the outdoors powerful is how it brings people together. We create space for connection—between travelers, landscapes, and the bigger story of where we are.
